As part of the Neonatal Nursing course, Associate Professor Dr. Özlem Akarsu Akkaya, the course instructor, and Medeniyet Health Group collaborated on an event to raise awareness about premature babies on November 17th, World Prematurity Day. This special day, celebrated annually by the World Health Organization to raise awareness and maintain awareness of prematurity-related issues, aimed to raise students' awareness of the issue.
The event included a viewing of the documentary "Premmie," which explored the struggle for survival of premature babies, their intensive care processes, and the emotional experiences of their families. In a post-documentary evaluation session, students had the opportunity to consider the challenges faced by premature babies and their families from a different perspective, significantly increasing their awareness of neonatal care and their professional sensitivity.
The event not only strengthened students' academic knowledge but also contributed to their deeper understanding of family-centered care and empathy in neonatal nursing.
