11.05.2026

Students from the Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Nursing, 3rd year, organized an awareness event titled “Digital Parenting in the Digital Age: Media Content Normalization” within the scope of the Community Service Practices course. The event was conducted in two sessions under the supervision of Dr. Merve İnan Budak.

The program aimed to raise awareness about the effects of age-inappropriate digital content that children may encounter online, to highlight the gradual “normalization” of such exposure over time, and to promote safe media usage. It also sought to enhance digital awareness among both parents and students.

In the session designed for parents, topics such as hidden risks in digital content, the impact of repeated exposure on child development, and privacy perception were discussed. The session also covered digital parenting practices, including content filtering on digital platforms, screen time management, and content control. It concluded with recommendations for healthy communication and conscious media use.

In the student-focused workshop titled “Digital Detectives,” participants were encouraged to critically evaluate digital content, correctly interpret age ratings, and assess content in terms of safety. The workshop was supported with interactive activities and gamified learning methods to enhance engagement.
